NEW REGULATIONS, NEW ISSUES, NEW APPLICATIONS

Industry is driven by regulations, codes and standards. ECI has been on the inside of many of these developments at the Technical Committee level. David Edenburn has served on over two dozen committees in a variety of markets at the local, national and international level.

In particular: new standards for electronics products, standards and procedures for environmental compliance with new regulations, new programs for construction that minimize environmental impact of buildings.

The field of FIRE SAFETY for plastics and other materials has never been more important or more dynamic. In almost every market, new regulations are being enacted or contemplated to reduce the threat of fire to consumers. At the same time, new environmental regulations are making the job of the material supplier more difficult. The principal, David Edenburn, has been involved with all aspects of flame retardant materials and fire safety for 30 years, working in research, sales, and marketing for two of the leading flame retardant producers as well as finished product manufacturers. For the past several years, Mr. Edenburn has primarily focused on codes and standards. While working in industry, David Edenburn has been able to advise nearly every major manufacturer of materials and the products made from them. Edenburn Consulting is available to consult on all areas of fire safety and flame retardant materials.

In the current market, developing a functional and effective fire retardant system is not enough, it must also meet the rapidly growing array of environmental standards. ECI has participated in the development of ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN STANDARDS from the very beginning. David Edenburn was a founding member of IEC TC 111 (Environmental standardization for electrical and electronic products and systems) and ASTM F40 (Declarable Substances in Materials). The years of experience and active participation in these two key environmental committees can be used to prepare the client for the regulatory obstacles they may face such as national material restrictions or mandated recycling.

There are three areas where our expertise is recognized:

Product Design Standards Environmental Standards Formulations
David Edenburn has been an active member of the technical committees that create the standards used by manufacturers to design and build their products. These include IEC TC108 on electronics products, TC61 on electric appliances, and various horizontal committees that deal with a specific aspect of all products.

The awareness of the environmental impact of products, both during their use phase and their disposal, is at an all-time high. There are many technical committees that have been created to create standards leading to regulations for almost all types of manufactured goods. As a founding member and chairman of some of these committees, ECI is well positioned to advise and advocate on behalf of our clients.

For almost 25 years, David Edenburn, in his capacity of technical service representative for two of the major chemical additive companies, advised plastics manufacturers on how to formulate their products to meet end-use requirements. The majority of this work was with flame retardants, but formulations for stabilizers and fillers were also developed. Many of the commercial grades of plastics available today were based on recipes developed by David Edenburn.

Edenburn Consulting International is ready to help with any of these areas, and may be able to assist in ways not thought of. Please contact us and we can work together to meet your needs. Fees will be based on the type of project, the duration, and difficulty.
